Tours, Tours and Nothing But Tours

Living in the states as a K-pop fan is both a blessing and a curse. You get to meet new fans, have these intimate venues and even have the opportunity to meet your favorite group. However, with so many concerts back to back, the K-pop fandom is definitely running out of money.

With another announcement for a tour coming to the tri-state area, I can literally hear my wallet crying at this moment. I was not expecting KARD to be hitting NYC because I thought they had completed their tour. But boy was I wrong. Within the next two months, there are about four K-pop concerts coming to New York City: Monsta X, G-Dragon, Seventeen and now KARD. Personally, I don’t know how I am able to afford to go to three out of four of the concerts. There is even a possibility of Taeyang touring to the states as well.  I just can’t keep up anymore and I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one. Continue reading

Why Is TOP Receiving The Biggest Backlash?

Big-Bang-TOP_1454201748_af_org

For the past week, k-pop news sites have been covering TOP’s recent drug scandal. With loads of questions, information, and the negative impact it will have on the industry, one important question still remains. Why is TOP receiving the most backlash? Based on the recent comments, many Korean people look down on doing any type of drugs and this is not the first scandal we’ve had in the past two years. Artist like Iron and Kidoh were both reprimanded for being busted for smoking weed, but they instead of prison, they were put on probation. So what is the difference between TOP and those two artists?

My Top 5 Heart-Wrenching Korean Music Videos

The videos I usually watch always have those repetitive concepts with good looking boy and girl groups falling in love, but sometimes a few heartfelt videos hide under the radar. These videos grab at my heart every time I watch them, feeling the need to shed a tear. So these are my top five heart-wrenching  Korean music videos:

5. Haru Haru by Big Bang

This was the video that peaked my interest in k-pop and turned me into a VIP. For a song I did not understand, the music video told me the story. G-Dragon and T.O.P are fighting over a girl, because the girl broke up with G-Dragon and started dating T.O.P. However, G-Dragon does not know that this girl was diagnosed with cancer and she broke with him to not hurt him when she’s gone. Unfortunately, G-Dragon discovers the truth too late and watches the girl he loves, die on the table. The whole video was strange to me at first (since it was my first k-pop video) but I could understand the story. Not to mention Big Bangs acting, the way G-Dragon was singing his last words to her as he hovered over her was so heart wrenching that I was about to cry.

4. Melted by Akdong Musician

This music video was very different and had a new flair to it. This time the artists were not in the video and it was filmed in Canada. The idea that it was filmed in a completely different country and had a story it to it made this video at number four. Continue reading
